Sara Bezovšek is a visual artist whose work encompasses anything that can be found on the internet; from memes and algorithms to screen recordings. Her art reflects the contemporary phenomena of doom scrolling, hyper-presence, and the intense fluctuations of digital interactions. It explores the impact of depressive algorithms and the pervasive culture of self-expression that defines our era.In her work for The Color of Energy, Bezovšek presents a monumental video work titled SND (a name derived from a Slovenian primary school textbook titled Introduction to Nature and Society.) that echoes the themes of disaster movies. It begins with a montage of serene sky images, vibrant Disneyland scenes, and bustling vacation spots, setting a deceptive tone of normalcy. As the video progresses, increasingly disturbing images emerge. Megacities in fierce competition, uncontrolled oil drilling, earthquakes induced by nuclear tests, a killing list of school mas-sacres ranked by death toll, and extreme weather events that lead to a new ice age. The soundtrack heightens the unfolding sense of apocalypse throughout the video. -Mirela Baciak
